A Study on the Dental Arch of the Korean-White and Korean-Negro Hybrid Children

Abstract
Author studied on the dental arches and palates of 247 (male 130, female 117) Korean-White and 138 (male 69, female 69) Korean-Negro hybrid children between the ages of 2 and 11 years by the indirect method with their plaster impressions, and observed their forms by measurement and the growing modi with increasing age.
Lastly the comparison was carried out between these Korean hybrids and the Korean, the European children.
1. The four kinds of types of the upper dental arch of both hybrids showed the frequency of occurrences as follows:
The ellipitical type is the highest, the parabollical type is the second, the rounded square type is the third, and the V-shaped type is the lowest.
2. The Six kinds of the types of the sagittal vault of the palate showed the frequency of occurrences in sequences:
The moderately S-shaped type, the slightly V-shaped type, strongly curved S-shaped type, the V-shaped type, the convex type and the slant type in both hybrids groups.
3. The five kinds of the types of the transverse vaults of the palate showed the frequency of occurrences in sequences:
The slightly rounded trapezoid type, slightly rounded type, the slightly rounded square type, the V-shaped type and the W-shaped type in both hybrids groups.
4. The length of the upper and lower dental arches decreased slightly with increasing age.
5. The width of the upper and lower dental arches increased with increasing age.
6. The growth of anterior length of the dental arch was greater than that of the bi canine width..
7. The growth of bi-canine width was greater than that of the bi-second molar width.
8. The index of the length of dental arch to head length decreased with increasing age.
9. The growth of the bi-canine width was slower than that of the bizygomatic width until age of 9, and became rapid after age of 9.
10. The growth of the width of dental arch was slower than that of the head breadth until age of 7, and after age of 8, both increasing ratio were equal.
11. The growth of the width of dental arch was slower than that of the bigonial width
12. The length of the dental arches of both hybrids was intermediate between Korean and European children, and European¢¥s was longest and that of Korean was shortest.
13. Also, width of dental arches of the both hybrids was intermeiate between Korean and European. Korean¢¥s was widest and European¢¥s was narrowest.
14. The dental arch of Korean-Negro hybrid was greater than that of the Korean White hybrid.
15. The dental arch of the male was greater than that of the female in both kinds of hybrids.
